What Is Life?

By Bruce Mackay

Many volumes of books have been written on what life is. Most poems or songs are reflections on life and its purpose.

Although there are many conflicting theories and philosophies on life, the one thing that I feel all of us agree on is that life passes us by more quickly than we would like it to.

It is quoted that the former Beatle, John Lennon said ‘life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.’ There never seems to be enough time to do what we want and even what is important seems to get neglected.

The Bible highlights this reality when it says “What is your life – it is but a vapour that appears for a little while and vanishes away.”

What is getting the priority in your life? Remember our lives have been made by God in His image and therefore exist for eternity. Have you made plans for life after death? Jesus said “lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven” because earthly treasures pass away and they rust, they become moth eaten or even stolen. Life is more than food and clothing, it is God and His righteousness. (Matt 6:32,33)

Jesus died, rose from the dead and ascended back to the Father in heaven, thus preparing a place for you.

In the business of life, do not neglect God’s so great salvation.
