‘La Vita’ Is Coming!

By Composer, Murray Wylie

“La Vita” – here is the song of “The Life.”
On Saturday and Sunday September 20th and 21st Adelaide’s premier performance of this beautiful Christian musical will be presented at Chapel on the Boulevard by an accomplished group of singers and orchestral ensemble.

Composed in February 2008 by Murray Wylie, La Vita (Italian for ‘The Life’) exploits instrumental and vocal solos, an artful chamber ensemble and choir, in a set of 14 musical scenes. Contemporary musical styles march alongside classical modes in this original composition that explores the life that is in Jesus Christ.

Murray Wylie is an experienced Australian composer of oratorios, musicals and modern worship repertoire. He is well known for his acclaimed work ‘The Jerusalem Passion’ which was performed over several seasons in major concert venues throughout Australia, including the Sydney Opera House, the Melbourne Concert Hall and Adelaide’s Festival Theatre. Murray and the ensemble members of La Vita have had a long association through the Australian network of ‘Restoration’ churches.

La Vita focuses on the most important question: What are we to understand by ‘The Life’ that Jesus Christ proclaimed in His earthly ministry? Do we have ‘life’ already? What does the birth of Christ, into the flesh of humankind, really mean? What does the death of Christ really mean?

His birth and death are the focus of the two religious festivals celebrated by millions the world over. But how are we to relate to these events, when our secular society and education systems have reduced them to religious fables?
In Murray’s own words, ‘La Vita – here is the song of “The Life” – a quietly reflective, but powerfully impacting, statement that translates stories of old to the story of you and me. The Life is here! Your life. My life.’

Chapel on the Boulevard, the former Westlakes Function Centre, is the ideal venue for this presentation having recently been renovated and supplied with a new stage and lighting. The team at the Chapel are keen that this should be the first of many such quality events.
