Heart of the Father

- An exciting new musical

In September last year, a large audience sat absorbed as the Chapel Ensemble and Singers presented the musical, La Vita.  The beauty of the music and power of its message filled the auditorium of the former Ruggerio’s or West Lakes Function Centre, converted to become ‘Chapel on the Boulevard’.

Now Chapel on the Boulevard is thrilled to present a brand new musical entitled ‘Heart of the Father’.  An event not to be missed!  It will take place on Saturday the 24th of April 2010.

This musical is intensely melodic and hauntingly beautiful. In writing this work, the young composer/songwriter, Lorinda Hall, has used her creative flair to capture some of the wonder of the mystery of God and His love.  An inspiring composition, it celebrates the yearning in God’s heart for us to be His sons and daughters, and the response of the Son of God to see it fulfilled.

The song list contains eighteen musical pieces, presented variously by soloists, vocal groups, orchestra and choir.  The musical styles utilised throughout range from classical to gospel to chorale, and will be appreciated by all age groups.

The whole presentation is highly accessible and thoroughly absorbing.  The message carried by both the music and the words is at once challenging and faith-building, emanating from the very heart of the Father.

The musical story develops in three parts – ‘Before’, ‘The Son of God’, and ‘Hope Realised’.  It begins outside of time as the Trinity formulate the divine plan to bring forth a ‘new creation’ that included us.  So we sing, ‘we are in the very heart of Him … each name known before the world began’.

As the plan begins unfolding, mankind is created in rich fellowship with God.  But, through sin and wilfulness, we all become alienated from God and His life.  We do not remain alienated, however, and the good news reaches us in the ‘land of forgetfulness’Through His cross Christ has opened the pathway by which we can now be restored to our eternal destiny.

We hear the good news and make our response – ‘Have you heard the message? Precious words in the message?  Have you heard that Jesus is the light?’

The climax to the musical arrives in the stirring affirmation, ‘we have received this life’ as we rejoice in the gift of God’s eternal life.

The composer, Lorinda Hall, is a bright new talent who has been composing and arranging outstanding music for a number of years.  Completing her A Mus (piano) before leaving high school, she has become an active composer of fine Christian music.  Based at Chapel on the Boulevard in Adelaide’s north western suburbs, she has taken a leading role in several major music productions as well as numerous individual items.  She writes and arranges for the Chapel Hour program as well as singing herself.

This composition has been a year in the making and draws not only on her strong creative capacities, but also upon her deep conviction and Biblical understanding.

The core work has been augmented by several songs from other writers including Lisa & James Johnson, and David Hall.

The Chapel Ensemble consists of twenty four players of strings, woodwind and brass which combines with a 30 voice choir to produce a vibrant clear sound.  They rehearse regularly to provide high quality music for the weekly Chapel Hour at Chapel on the Boulevard.

The music program begins at 7.30 pm after complimentary drinks, and concludes around 9.30 pm.

Tickets are $12 each ($6 concession).  Bookings can be made online at www.chapel.org.au
